Basti
Basti (Enema) is considered as the mother of all Panchakarma treatments. It can be used for almost all ailments acute or chronic, simple or complicated. Basti in Ayurvedic terms is not just an enema given to cleanse the bowel; it is highly effective route of administration of medication. Through the Basti we can administer large doses of medicines up to 960 ml. Our large intestine readily absorbs the medicines and at timesworks faster than the oral medicines.
- Indications:
- Niruhabasticleanses the accumulated toxins from all the 3 doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha, through the colon.
- Anuvasan Basti is highly beneficial as a rejuvenating treatment. Medicated oil or ghee and an herbal decoction are given as enema to clean the colon and increase the muscle tone.
- Tiktaksheerbasti are useful in bone and joint diseases.
- Yaapan basti are a special type of basti used for chronic degenerative disorders and show magical results. Selection of the type of basti and the medicines used in it is a vital decision. Therefore these treatments should be done only under expert vaidya's guidance and observation. This treatment is given as 8, 16 or 30 days course, based on the medical condition of a person.
